The crucial role of Ukrainian mayors since the beginning of Russian aggression was highlighted in Nancy during the Urban7.
This week, five Ukrainian mayors and local elected officials took part in a panel titled “Supporting Ukrainian cities: urban reconstruction and resilience strategies.”
Oleksandr Syenkevych, Mayor of Mykolaiv, Vitalii Bielobrov, Deputy Mayor of Kherson, Serhii Morhunov, Mayor of Vinnytsia, Andriy Moskalenko, First Deputy Mayor of Lviv, and Bohdan Kelichavyi, Mayor of Kopychyntsi, each described their daily realities. On the ground, they are working to ensure access to drinking water and electricity, keep schools open despite bombardments, organize the reception of thousands of displaced people, and already plan the reconstruction of their territories.
Inviting them to Nancy means placing Ukraine at the center of the debate and reminding everyone that supporting their cities means supporting the heroic resistance of an entire people. This international event was organized as part of France’s G7 presidency by France urbaine, the City of Nancy, Metropolitan Area of Nancy, and the Urban7 Secretariat.
