As part of International Women's Rights Day and its thematic initiatives, the Communal Social Action Center (CCAS) of Sailly-lez-Lannoy, a French village twinned with Semenivka in Ukraine, organized a weekend entitled “Women in Times of War”, featuring several events highlighting the experiences of war as lived by women in France and Ukraine.
The municipality organized a workshop to raise awareness among 4th and 5th grade students about gender equality and the fight against stereotypes and discrimination. A participatory workshop on “Gender and Armed Conflict” was also offered to residents. Both workshops were led by Julie Bernard-Duteil, a manager at the Gender Institute in Geopolitics.

The European Union continues to purchase Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) in record amounts in 2024, directly funding the Kremlin’s war machine. Instead of reducing its dependence, Europe has increased its imports, sending billions of euros to Russia—even as its fossil fuel exports directly fuel the invasion of Ukraine.
New data from the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) shows that stricter sanctions could cut Russia’s fossil fuel revenues by 22%, amounting to €59 billion per year! Yet, EU countries continue to massively pay Russia for its gas and oil: €212 billion since 2022—an amount exceeding the aid provided to Ukraine.

On February 28, Le Havre hosted an exceptional day dedicated to Franco-Ukrainian friendship, marking a new milestone in the partnership between Le Havre and Mariupol, a project that Stand With Ukraine has supported since its inception in 2023.This bond between Le Havre and Mariupol was not created overnight. In 2023, the first Mariupol delegation was welcomed in Le Havre as part of the MistoMatch initiative, led by Stand With Ukraine to connect Ukrainian and French cities through concrete cooperation projects. Since then, we have worked hand in hand with both municipalities, supported by the Embassy of Ukraine in France, to structure a sustainable and ambitious partnership.
