French support is reaching Ukraine. And international solidarity continues to make a real difference.
In a context of extreme urgency, the city of Nantes demonstrates, through the rapid mobilization of €30,000 in emergency aid, the essential role that French local authorities can play alongside the Ukrainian population, particularly in Kherson.
Across Ukraine, temperatures have dropped to as low as −30°C, while Russia continues its targeted attacks on the country’s energy infrastructure. Power plants, electrical substations, and gas networks remain deliberate targets, leaving millions of people without electricity or heating.
This week, three generators were delivered to Kherson: two 55 kVA units and one 69 kVA unit.
These generators will help maintain the operation of the city’s water supply and sanitation systems, ensuring access to safe drinking water for approximately 6,500 residents.
This support is part of the tripartite partnership signed on 15 May 2025 between Nantes Métropole, Saint-Nazaire Agglomération, and the City of Kherson under the MistoMatch programme. A key focus of this partnership is supporting the reconstruction of the territory and restoring water supply and sanitation infrastructure, much of which has been severely damaged by the war.
The generators were purchased and transported with the support of SAFE, a French association dedicated to assisting Ukrainian civilians.
In the coming days, dozens more generators funded by French partner cities will be delivered across Ukraine to help keep essential public services running.
We commend the commitment of French local authorities, whose actions demonstrate that cooperation between municipalities can have an immediate and life-saving impact.
