Today, we celebrate Lviv’s 769th anniversary!

As every first weekend of May, the Ukrainian city marks its birthday with a joyful public celebration, filled with music, dancing, and parades. A festive moment shared with family, dedicated this year to the Defenders of Ukraine — thanks to whom Lviv continues to live, thrive, and shine.

Twinned with Cannes, Lviv is not only an architectural gem — with over 2,500 historic monuments and a historic center listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site — but also a true hub of ideas, science, and culture in Ukraine.

First mentioned in 1256 and home to over 724,000 residents, Lviv is a deeply European city, shaped by Polish, Austrian, and German influences. It is the birthplace of Ivan Franko, the great Ukrainian writer, poet, and thinker, a leading figure of the national movement and social progress in the late 19th century.

In 2025, Lviv proudly holds the title of European Youth Capital — a recognition of its vitality, creativity, and the commitment of its young people to the future of Europe.
