Last Monday, Stand With Ukraine visited Uman, a mid-sized city in central Ukraine, where Russian missiles struck an apartment building in the middle of the night, killing 23 people.<\/p>\n

This visit provided an opportunity to meet with the city\u2019s emergency services, who worked tirelessly for 36 hours, first battling the fire caused by the explosion and then evacuating the injured and clearing the rubble. Thanks to the professionalism and dedication of firefighters and rescuers, the situation was quickly brought under control. However, the attack remains a traumatic event for a city that had previously been relatively spared by bombings.<\/p>\n

In the face of catastrophe and loss, Ukrainian flags are raised on surrounding buildings, symbolizing the resilience of the Ukrainian people. Confronted with terrorism in its most cruel and arbitrary form, the citizens of Uman organize themselves, clean up, and rebuild. \u201cWe cannot give up,\u201d<\/em> they tell us, as the war rages on.<\/p>\n
