As part of the Babylon Villeneuve project, we are delighted to invite you to a screening of a series of documentaries titled “Defending Identity, Culture, and Freedom”<\/em> at the Studio 28 Cinema in the 18th arrondissement of Paris!<\/p>\n

\ud83c\udf9e \ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\udde6 This documentary anthology, produced by the renowned Ukrainian collective Babylon’13, offers a fresh perspective on Ukrainian society during the war.<\/p>\n

\ud83c\udfb6 \ud83d\uddbc \ud83c\udfa8 For centuries, Russia has used its art as a soft power tool to spread propaganda and enhance the image of a country that acts as a true aggressor. For decades, Russia and the Soviet Union systematically suppressed Ukrainian culture, language, and intelligentsia for colonial purposes, brutally persecuting Ukrainian poets, artists, and musicians. Their goal has always been to strip Ukrainians of their identity, language, and freedom while imposing the narrative that Ukrainian culture is merely a provincial extension of the “great Russian culture.”<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udca5\ud83c\udfdb\ufe0f While Russia destroys UNESCO World Heritage cities in Ukraine daily with strategic bomber strikes, it continues to use culture as a tool of propaganda and manipulation. Through the arts, Russia attempts to polish its international image, concealing the reality of a country pursuing imperialist goals at the expense of the identities and freedoms of the peoples it oppresses.<\/p>\n

\ud83c\uddf7\ud83c\uddfa Babylon’13 deconstructs the myth that the Russian world and its profound philosophy are rooted in humanism. Instead, they reveal that it is based on the manipulation of a declining empire where human life is sacrificed without remorse. The series also shows how, in the midst of war, Ukrainians are fighting not only for their physical survival but also to preserve and defend their identity and cultural values.<\/p>\n
