As part of the Congress of Mayors, a delegation from <\/span>Chuhuiv<\/b>, a city located in the <\/span>Kharkiv <\/b>region of Ukraine that has been severely affected by the war, was welcomed on Monday, November 18, in <\/span>Ch\u00e2teau-Thierry<\/b> by <\/span>S\u00e9bastien Eug\u00e8ne<\/b>, the <\/span>mayor of the town<\/b>, and <\/span>F\u00e9lix Bokassia<\/b>, a <\/span>municipal councilor in charge of twinning and international solidarity<\/b>. This meeting, organized by Stand With Ukraine in partnership with Cities4Cities, highlighted the importance of international cooperation.<\/span><\/p>\n

During their visit, <\/span>Galyna Minayeva<\/b>, the <\/span>mayor of Chuhuiv<\/b>, and her <\/span>deputy<\/b>, <\/span>Liudmyla Makarenko<\/b>, were received at the <\/span>Town Hall<\/b> for a productive exchange about the challenges their municipality is facing. The delegation then explored the <\/span>heritage of Ch\u00e2teau-Thierry<\/b>, including the Medieval Castle and its birdhouse, before participating in a <\/span>press conference at the Jean-Mac\u00e9 Media Library<\/b> to raise public awareness about the current situation in Ukraine.<\/span><\/p>\n

This visit marks the beginning of a promising partnership between Ch\u00e2teau-Thierry and Chuhuiv. The two cities aim to develop concrete projects to support the <\/span>material and human reconstruction of Chuhuiv<\/b>. F\u00e9lix Bokassia pointed out the importance of these initiatives:<\/span> “This partnership aims to provide Chuhuiv with sustainable solutions, particularly through projects that will allow the town to access European funding for its reconstruction.”<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Among the ideas mentioned, <\/span>cultural exchanges, viticulture projects, and solidarity initiatives for children affected by the war <\/b>are a top priority. <\/span>Students from Ch\u00e2teau-Thierry could send drawings<\/b> to express their support for their Ukrainian peers, strengthening the ties between the two communities.<\/span><\/p>\n

Since the beginning of the conflict, Chuhuiv has suffered <\/span>heavy human and material losses<\/b>. About <\/span>a quarter of its population has been displaced<\/b>, and the city remains under the <\/span>constant threat of bombings<\/b>. “Despite the difficulties, we remain hopeful of rebuilding our city and ensuring a better future for our inhabitants,” said Galyna Minayeva.<\/span><\/p>\n

For his part, S\u00e9bastien Eug\u00e8ne reiterated Ch\u00e2teau-Thierry’s commitment to Ukraine: <\/span>“Solidarity is an integral part of Ch\u00e2teau-Thierry’s identity. We have already supported Ukraine by sending humanitarian convoys to Gryb\u00f3w, one of our twin cities, located near the Ukrainian border. This new partnership aligns with our desire to sustainably support our war-affected European neighbor by acting at the municipal level, especially in its material and human reconstruction efforts.”<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n
