On Sunday in Kyiv, cooking became far more than a culinary art. It emerged as a space for rebuilding, transmission, and human connection, in the service of those whose lives have been profoundly disrupted by war.<\/p>\n

On the occasion of the visit to Ukraine by Michelin-starred chef Thierry Marx<\/strong>, with whom Stand With Ukraine<\/em> has been developing a training program for the past two years aimed at veterans and internally displaced persons, we co-organized\u2014together with Expertise France in Ukraine<\/strong>, NGO Cult Food<\/strong>, and the Embassy of France in Ukraine<\/strong>\u2014an event celebrating dialogue between French and Ukrainian cuisines.<\/p>\n

Hosted at UKRSIBBANK BNP Paribas Group<\/strong> in Kyiv, the evening was opened by the Ambassador of France to Ukraine, Ga\u00ebl Veyssi\u00e8re<\/strong>. It brought together Thierry Marx and Ukrainian chef Yevhen Klopotenko<\/strong> alongside trainees trained in culinary professions: former military personnel, displaced persons from Mariupol, as well as teachers from a vocational education institution in Chernihiv.<\/p>\n

The Mariupol City Council (\u041c\u0430\u0440\u0456\u0443\u043f\u043e\u043b\u044c\u0441\u044c\u043a\u0430 \u043c\u0456\u0441\u044c\u043a\u0430 \u0440\u0430\u0434\u0430)<\/strong>, a partner of the project since its inception, plays a central role in supporting displaced residents and in building pathways toward professional reintegration, despite forced exile and the destruction of the city.<\/p>\n

Alongside it, Le Havre<\/strong>, Mariupol\u2019s partner city, has hosted part of the training sessions and actively supports the La Cantine de Marioupol<\/em> project, which is also backed by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (France Diplomatie)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Within the framework of the STIYKIST<\/strong> project, implemented by Expertise France<\/strong>, Yevhen Klopotenko and the NGO Cult Food<\/strong> are working to strengthen the skills of teachers and trainers in Ukraine\u2019s hospitality and food service sector.<\/p>\n

Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Thierry Marx, through his network Cuisine Mode d\u2019Emploi(s)<\/strong>, has been engaged in training Ukrainian veterans and internally displaced persons. Two initial training sessions have already taken place in Toulouse and Le Havre, enabling participants to acquire concrete professional skills and to regain confidence and perspective. Starting in 2026, these training programs will continue directly in Ukraine, in Dnipro<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Partners from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine (\u041c\u0456\u043d\u0456\u0441\u0442\u0435\u0440\u0441\u0442\u0432\u043e \u0437\u0430\u043a\u043e\u0440\u0434\u043e\u043d\u043d\u0438\u0445 \u0441\u043f\u0440\u0430\u0432 \u0423\u043a\u0440\u0430\u0457\u043d\u0438 \/ MFA of Ukraine)<\/strong> and the Embassy of Ukraine in France (\u041f\u043e\u0441\u043e\u043b\u044c\u0441\u0442\u0432\u043e \u0423\u043a\u0440\u0430\u0457\u043d\u0438 \u0443 \u0424\u0440\u0430\u043d\u0446\u0456\u0457)<\/strong> were also present, along with defenders of Ukraine and numerous representatives of Ukrainian authorities, civil society, and the cultural sector.<\/p>\n

Far beyond technical training, cooking here becomes a genuine form of therapy\u2014a way to restore confidence, pride, and human connection.<\/p>\n

This event was made possible thanks to close cooperation among all the teams of the Embassy of France in Ukraine<\/strong>, Stand With Ukraine<\/strong>, Expertise France<\/strong>, Cuisine Mode d\u2019Emploi(s)<\/strong>, Cult Food<\/strong>, and UKRSIBBANK BNP Paribas Group<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
