{"id":1268,"date":"2023-02-21T15:56:48","date_gmt":"2023-02-21T15:56:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.standwithukraineeurope.com\/la-roulette-russe-des-entreprises-francaises-la-france-doit-emettre-des-directives-appelant-ses-entreprises-a-quitter-la-russie\/"},"modified":"2024-11-04T10:31:17","modified_gmt":"2024-11-04T10:31:17","slug":"la-roulette-russe-des-entreprises-francaises-la-france-doit-emettre-des-directives-appelant-ses-entreprises-a-quitter-la-russie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.standwithukraineeurope.com\/en\/la-roulette-russe-des-entreprises-francaises-la-france-doit-emettre-des-directives-appelant-ses-entreprises-a-quitter-la-russie\/","title":{"rendered":"Corporate Russian roulette: Why France must issue guidance urging companies to leave Russia now"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>French authorities must investigate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/en\/international\/video\/2023\/02\/17\/video-investigation-how-a-french-company-is-supporting-russia-s-war-effort-in-ukraine_6016182_4.html\">Le Monde\u2019s claims<\/a> that retailer Auchan seems to be contributing to Russia\u2019s war efforts in Ukraine and do more to urge businesses to cut ties with Russia, says B4Ukraine \u2014 an international coalition of more than 80 civil society organizations and French partner organization, Stand With Ukraine.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">66% of the French firms which had ties to Russia at the start of 2022 continue to do business within the country<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">The French companies remaining paid at least $1 billion in taxes to Russia in 2021 \u2014 enough to fund Russia\u2019s war against Ukraine for 3 days<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">For every $2 the French government declares in bilateral aid to Ukraine, its companies may still be paying $1 in taxes to the Russian state<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Paris \u2014 February 20th 2023.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">66% of the French\u00a0 firms which had ties to Russia at the start of 2022 continue to do business with the country, a new analysis of 3,078 multinationals reveals.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Based on data from the Kyiv School of Economics, the analysis titled \u201cUnfinished Business\u201d found 106 of French companies which had ties to Russia at the start of 2022 continue to do business in the country.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of the 94 French firms with Russian subsidiaries at the start of the war, 11 have fully exited, about 12% or just over one in ten.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOne year after the invasion and nine years since the beginning of Russia\u2019s aggression, this is far too little progress,\u201d said Eleanor Nichol, Executive Director of the B4Ukraine Coalition. \u201cWhile the French\u00a0 government has been supporting Ukraine, providing billions of pounds in support, 106 of their major companies have chosen to continue doing business with the regime \u2014 continuing to pay taxes and indirectly supporting this horrific war and undermining sanctions.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When compared to French contributions in aid, for every $2 the French government<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifw-kiel.de\/topics\/war-against-ukraine\/ukraine-support-tracker\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">declares in bilateral aid to Ukraine<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, its companies may still be paying $1 in taxes to the Russian state.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consumer goods and energy, oil and gas companies headquartered in France have been particularly slow to leave. Notable examples include<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/leave-russia.org\/leroy-merlin\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leroy Merlin<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/leave-russia.org\/auchan\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Auchan<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">B4Ukraine is calling on the French government, a leading democratic force in the world, to immediately issue business advisory notices urging companies to stop doing business with Russia and informing individuals, companies, financial institutions, and other persons \u2014 including investors, consultants, and research service providers \u2014 of the heightened risks associated with doing business in Russia, and particularly business activity that could benefit the Russian military or any affiliated paramilitary groups.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhile the companies doing business with Russia are reporting on their increased profits in the past year, Ukrainians are recounting their losses: the millions of lives forever disrupted by over<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/pgo_gov_ua\/9577\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">70,000 Russia\u2019s war crimes<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, tens of thousands of casualties among the Ukrainian civilians, including 461 children. Over 6,000 missiles and kamikaze drones targeting critical infrastructure, apartment blocks, schools, and hospitals across Ukraine were made possible in part by the taxes paid by multinationals in Russia,\u201d says Nataliya Popovych, member of the B4Ukraine Coalition.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite the high numbers of companies remaining, 54 French companies have recognized the risks and begun the process of cutting ties with Russia.
