SUMMARY:Special Screening of the Film Starting from Scratch
DESCRIPTION:As part of the Babylon Villeneuve project\, we are delighted to invite you to a screening of the documentary “Starting from Scratch” at Cinéma Espace Saint-Michel\, in the 5th arrondissement of Paris! \n🎞️ Starting from Scratch is a series of nine documentaries directed by the renowned Ukrainian collective Babylon’13\, shedding light on the reconstruction of Ukrainian communities affected by Russia’s war of aggression. \nThrough these powerful films\, you will witness the moving stories of cities such as Maryinka\, Kharkiv\, Kamenka\, and Nikopol. Residents are shown working tirelessly to rebuild their daily lives: repairing homes destroyed by Russian attacks\, clearing debris\, reinstalling windows and roofs\, and even cleaning courtyards with their grandchildren after bombings. Some return to live in dangerous areas still littered with landmines. Others find creative ways to cope with trauma — like wounded soldiers who begin painting or creating graffiti on damaged walls. \nDespite the hardships\, the Ukrainian people refuse to give up. With courage and solidarity\, they rebuild their lives and stand strong against the pain and destruction left by the Russian war of aggression. \n📆 October 12 at 8:30 PM📍 Cinéma Espace Saint-Michel\, 7 Place Saint-Michel\, 75005 Paris🎫 Free entry with reservation — https://billets.babylon-villeneuve.fr🥂 Discussion with the director + French-Ukrainian cocktail reception🎗 All donations collected will go toward supporting Ukrainian volunteers \nJoin us to show your support for Ukraine! 🇺🇦

This twinning aims to create strong ties between our two communities by promoting cultural\, educational\, and human exchanges. These Franco-Ukrainian partnerships are essential to support the Ukrainian population and promote projects of resilience and reconstruction while strengthening solidarity between our cities. \nDon’t miss this exhibition! \n

SUMMARY:Preview Screening of the film Intercepted
DESCRIPTION:🎥 On Tuesday\, September 24\, the French premiere of the Ukrainian documentary Intercepted will take place\, a film supported by the French National Centre for Cinema and the Moving Image (CNC) and ARTE\, as part of the Génération Ukraine project. \n🇫🇷 The screening is organized with the support of the French Ministry of Culture and the Embassy of Ukraine in France\, in collaboration with the Ukrainian Institute in France. \n🪖🇷🇺 In this powerful documentary\, Ukrainian filmmaker Oksana Karpovych offers a striking portrayal of life during the war in Ukraine. Through silent footage of Ukrainians attempting to resume daily life after the Russian army’s passage\, she juxtaposes these moments with the raw audio of intercepted phone calls between Russian soldiers and their families\, obtained by Ukrainian intelligence services. \n🗣📱 These conversations expose a grim facet of the war: Russian soldiers speak openly of torture and place blame on Ukrainians — whom they refer to with the derogatory term “khokhols” — for everything from poverty and the Covid-19 pandemic to livestock disease. These words reveal the deep-rooted indoctrination and propaganda that shape their worldview. Many soldiers\, emotionally detached from the conflict\, show complete insensitivity toward the horrors they commit or endure. Enticed by government promises of money to enlist\, they are often met with broken pledges. \nThe screening of Intercepted offers a rare opportunity to confront this brutal reality — not just through images\, but also through the dehumanizing narratives that accompany the war. The film underscores how Russian soldiers’ minds are manipulated\, turning them into instruments of a propaganda machine. \nProduced in collaboration between Canada\, France\, and Ukraine\, Intercepted premiered at the Berlinale and is among the five films nominated for the prestigious European LUX Audience Award. Its production brought together French and Ukrainian artists and technicians in close cooperation\, further strengthening cultural and professional ties between the two countries. \n🎞 Director Oksana Karpovych will be present at the screening to discuss the making of this film\, which strikes a powerful balance between the ordinary moments of daily life and the psychological violence of intercepted conversations. Her work reminds us that the war waged by Russia is not only military\, but also a war of images and disinformation. \n🇺🇦 Stand With Ukraine will also be present at the screening and will engage with many leading figures from the French and Ukrainian cultural scenes to discuss ongoing initiatives supporting Ukrainian cinema in France. \n\n

SUMMARY:Special screening of the film Iron Butterflies
DESCRIPTION:As part of the Babylon Villeneuve project\, we are pleased to invite you to a screening of the documentary “Iron Butterflies” by the prestigious Ukrainian collective Babylon’13\, at Bercy Beaucoup in the 12th arrondissement of Paris! \nOn July 17\, 2014\, Malaysia Airlines flight MH17\, en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur\, was shot down by a Russian BUK anti-aircraft system over eastern Ukraine\, killing all 298 people on board. The Russian government immediately denied any involvement in the tragedy\, and propaganda was unleashed to try to cover up the true circumstances of the crash. However\, as the international investigation progressed and evidence was gathered\, the Russian denials became increasingly absurd and implausible. \nIn a world where violence and lies are inseparable\, Iron Butterflies\, directed by Roman Liubyi\, reveals the truth about what happened to flight MH17\, and what is at stake if we do not confront these falsifications. Unpunished evil always comes back. \nRoman Liubyi is a Ukrainian director\, editor\, animator\, and musician. His first feature documentary\, War Diary\, is a surreal journey along the front line of the war between Ukraine and Russia\, edited from footage filmed by Ukrainian soldiers in 2014. Since 2013\, Roman has been a member of the Babylon’13 film collective. \nAfter the screening\, Ukrainian pianist Sasha Morozova\, composer and actress of the film Iron Butterflies\, will give a live performance. Sasha will perform her own compositions\, written during the war. \nThe event will also feature a photographic collage exhibition by French artist and friend of Ukraine\, Fanny Lechevalier. All works displayed will be sold to support the defenders of Ukraine. \nJune 8\, 2024\, at 7:00 PMBercy Beaucoup\, 5 Boulevard Poniatowski\, 75012 Paris\, La RotondeFree entry with registration — http://billets.babylon-villeneuve.frDiscussion with director Roman Liubyi and a Franco-Ukrainian cocktailAll funds raised will go to support Ukrainian volunteers \nCome in large numbers to support Ukraine!

SUMMARY:Mykhailo Reva - Investigation of Evil
DESCRIPTION:On the occasion of the sad 2nd anniversary of the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine\, the Embassy of Ukraine in France\, the City Hall of the 15th arrondissement and Stand With Ukraine present sculptures by Mykhailo Reva\, a famous sculptor from Odesa. \nThe collection exhibited at the City Hall of the 15th arrondissement consists of war debris – shredded missile fragments\, dented shell casings\, twisted pieces of shrapnel – that bear witness to the war provoked by Russia in Ukraine.\nReva describes the construction of these works as:\n“a puzzle made of horror and chaos”.\nThis installation brings together two tons of remnants of munitions and wreckage from Russian drone and missile strikes on Ukrainian cities and villages\, which have been secured for artistic use: the equipment as material. \nReva’s art gives voice to the collective outrage over Russia’s attacks on Ukraine and especially Odesa\, his hometown. \nAbout the artist: \nMykhailo Reva\, Ukraine’s most famous sculptor\, was born on March 13\, 1960 in Kerch\, Crimea. Reva worked for the Art Sculpture Fund\, where he met his future wife Tatyana Kushniruk. \nAt the age of 25\, Mykhailo entered the St. Petersburg Higher School of Art and Design and graduated in 1990 with a degree in architectural and decorative plastics.\nMykhailo Reva’s artistic works are very diverse in nature and are presented in many places in Odesa\, Ukraine. \nHis works have become landmarks of the city – they include a monument to I. Ilf and E. Petrov “The Twelfth Chair”\, “Love Tree”\, the fountain “Source of Life” next to the Vorontsov Palace\, the art object “Odessa’s Time” and many others. His studio Reva\, founded in 2003\, is located in Odesa.

SUMMARY:Special Screening of a Series of Ukrainian Documentaries: "Defending Identity\, Culture\, and Freedom"
DESCRIPTION:As part of the Babylon Villeneuve project\, we are delighted to invite you to a special screening of the documentary series “Defending Identity\, Culture\, and Freedom” at Cinéma Studio 28 in Paris’s 18th arrondissement! \nThis documentary anthology\, produced by the renowned Ukrainian collective Babylon’13\, offers a fresh perspective on Ukrainian society during wartime. \nFor centuries\, Russia has used its art as a soft power tool to spread propaganda and enhance the image of a country that acts as a true terrorist state. For decades\, Russia and the Soviet Union systematically persecuted Ukrainian culture\, language\, and intelligentsia for colonial purposes\, brutally repressing Ukrainian poets\, artists\, and musicians. Their goal has always been to deprive Ukrainians of their identity\, language\, and freedom\, while imposing the idea that Ukrainian culture is merely a provincial offshoot of the so-called “great Russian culture.” \nWhile Russia continues to destroy Ukrainian cities classified as UNESCO World Heritage sites with strategic bomber strikes\, it still wields culture as a tool of propaganda and manipulation. Through the arts\, Russia attempts to whitewash its international image\, concealing the reality of a state pursuing imperialist ambitions at the expense of the identities and freedoms of the peoples it oppresses. \nBabylon’13 deconstructs the myth that Russian civilization and its philosophy are grounded in humanism. On the contrary\, they expose how it is based on the manipulation of a crumbling empire where human life is sacrificed without remorse. The documentary also shows how\, in the midst of war\, Ukrainians are fighting not only for their physical survival but also to protect and defend their identity and cultural values. \n📅 October 14\, 2023 – 11:00 AM📍 Cinéma Studio 28\, 10 Rue Tholozé\, 75018 Paris🎟 Tickets available at: https://billets.babylon-villeneuve.fr🎞 Film screening followed by a discussion🖼 Charity exhibition and auction of contemporary Ukrainian illustrations💙 All proceeds from the screening will go towards purchasing equipment for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. \nJoin us in supporting Ukraine! 🇺🇦

SUMMARY:Inauguration of the Kyiv Garden in Paris: A Symbol of Franco-Ukrainian Friendship
DESCRIPTION:On August 24\, 2023\, a new chapter in Franco-Ukrainian relations unfolds with the inauguration of the Kyiv Garden – To the Ukrainian People in Paris. This significant event establishes the garden as a vibrant symbol of the unwavering friendship between Paris and Kyiv. \nSince the beginning of the war in Ukraine\, the people of Paris and their Mayor\, Anne Hidalgo\, have demonstrated steadfast support for Ukraine. The honorary citizenship unanimously granted to Kyiv by the Paris Council in March 2022\, as well as the title of “City That Saves” awarded to Paris by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in April 2023\, bear witness to this solidarity. \nEarlier this year\, the Paris Council approved the new name of the garden\, “Kyiv Garden – To the Ukrainian People\,” highlighting the deep friendship between the two capitals and honoring Ukrainian heroes. This inauguration continues the partnership between Paris and Kyiv\, formalized by a friendship pact signed in April 2022 in Kyiv by Anne Hidalgo and Vitaliy Klitschko\, just days after the liberation of the Kyiv region. \nThe inauguration of the Kyiv Garden – To the Ukrainian People in Paris further strengthens the historic ties between French and Ukrainian cities\, a mission actively pursued by the Stand With Ukraine team. \nIn Paris\, this friendship is also reflected at the local level through partnerships between the 15th arrondissement and Pechersk\, as well as the 18th arrondissement and Podil. \nMore than just a place\, this garden stands as a living testament to Franco-Ukrainian friendship\, celebrating hope\, freedom\, and independence.

SUMMARY:Conference at the National Assembly: "Ukraine and Its Past – The Holodomor"
DESCRIPTION:On March 21\, 2023\, a conference titled “Ukraine and Its Past: The Holodomor” will be held at the National Assembly\, organized by Members of Parliament Anne Genetet (Renaissance)\, Boris Vallaud (Socialist Party)\, Jean-Louis Bourlanges (MoDem)\, Valérie Rabault (Socialist Party)\, Cyrielle Chatelain (Europe Écologie Les Verts)\, and Benjamin Haddad (Renaissance)\, President of the France-Ukraine Friendship Group at the National Assembly. \nThis event\, in the presence of the Ambassador of Ukraine to France\, Vadym Omelchenko\, and the association Stand With Ukraine\, aims to raise awareness among the public and parliamentarians about the tragedy of the Holodomor. This orchestrated genocide of 1932-1933 led to the deaths of nearly six million victims due to a famine deliberately engineered by the Soviet Union under Stalin. \nIn anticipation of the March 28 vote on a resolution recognizing and condemning the Holodomor as a genocide\, this conference will underscore the importance of acknowledging the recent history between Ukraine and Russia. Russia has long denied the genocide of 1932-1933\, making international recognition crucial—especially in the current context of Russia’s war of aggression.

SUMMARY:Special Screening of the Film ‘War Diary’
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to invite you\, as part of the Babylon Villeneuve project\, to a special screening of the documentary War Diary\, directed by Roman Liubyi from the Ukrainian collective Babylon’13. \nThis film takes us to the heart of the war in Ukraine through footage shot between 2014 and 2015 by Ukrainian soldiers and volunteers\, directly from their phones. It offers a raw and unfiltered look at a conflict where reality often surpasses comprehension. As the images unfold\, we are immersed in a world with its own strange\, almost surreal rules—far removed from the daily life we know. \nThe protagonists of these videos lead extraordinary lives: they laugh\, cry\, and capture moments of life\, all while knowing that each second could be their last. In this space where everything feels different—behavior\, relationships\, even humor—the camera becomes a privileged witness to their survival. \nJoin us for this exceptional screening! \n📅 March 9\, 2023 – 8:00 PM📍 Nouvel Odéon Cinema / 6 Rue de l’École de Médecine\, Paris🎟 Free entry with reservation💙 All funds raised will go towards supporting Ukrainian volunteers.

SUMMARY:Special Screening of the Documentary "One Day in Ukraine"
DESCRIPTION:As part of the Babylon Villeneuve project\, we are delighted to invite you to a screening of the documentary “One Day in Ukraine”\, produced by the renowned Babylon’13 collective\, at Cinéma Nouvel Odéon in Paris’s 6th arrondissement! \n🎬 Directed by Volodymyr Tykhyy\, this film captures life in Ukraine on a single day: March 14\, 2022. \nIt marks the 2\,944th day of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. In just three weeks of full-scale invasion\, a post-apocalyptic atmosphere has set in. Thousands of Kyiv residents have moved into metro stations for shelter\, while once-quiet suburbs of the capital have become battle zones\, suffering destruction and looting by Russian forces. \nTraditional notions of time have vanished—people no longer speak of “workdays” or “weekends” but rather count the days since February 24… \nThe film follows the lives of a pop star\, a video engineer\, a historian\, an art restorer\, a polar researcher\, and a retiree\, all of whom have been forced to radically change their lives. \n📅 March 3\, 2023 – 8:00 PM📍 Cinéma Nouvel Odéon\, 6 Rue de l’École de Médecine\, 75006 Paris🎟 Free entry with reservation: https://billets.babylon-villeneuve.fr🎤 Discussion with the director followed by a Franco-Ukrainian cocktail💙 All proceeds will go toward supporting Ukrainian volunteers. \nJoin us in solidarity with Ukraine! 🇺🇦

SUMMARY:Mass Gathering in Support of Ukrainian Resistance
DESCRIPTION:One Year. \nOn February 24\, 2022\, Russia sent its tanks toward Kyiv. \nOn February 24\, 2022\, we knew that this Russian aggression would bring the worst upon the Ukrainian people. \nOn February 24\, 2022\, Ukraine—its people and its president—chose resistance and freedom. \nOn February 24\, 2022\, we solemnly pledged to stand with Ukraine in its fight for the right to exist. \nFor a year\, Ukraine has defied all predictions of its defeat\, and Ukrainian society has continued its heroic struggle to survive\, following the European path it has democratically chosen. \nFor a year\, the world has witnessed the courage\, dignity\, and unwavering commitment of the Ukrainian people\, who have shattered the Kremlin’s criminal plans and those of its accomplices—who arrogantly believed Ukraine would fall within three days under the fire of fascism. \nBut Ukraine refuses to submit to a deadly Russia. Ukraine refuses to see its culture\, history\, and identity trampled\, wounded\, and erased by its imperialist neighbor—one that pretends to be a brother but will remain in history as nothing more than a bloody executioner\, bringing only terror\, as it always has. \nFor a year\, the world has finally come to understand the true nature and sinister ambitions of Putin\, his regime\, his mercenaries\, his enablers\, and his collaborators. \nWar crimes\, crimes against humanity\, genocide. Ukraine demands truth and justice for all its victims—justice and truth that are essential for anyone who truly desires peace in Europe. Without justice\, without truth\, without the total defeat of the murderers\, Europe will know only a temporary truce\, woven from shame and lies. \nFor a year\, across the world\, the spirit of resistance has grown\, uniting ever more supporters\, rallying institutions—even those we once thought too weakened—around the core values of our democracies. \nOn February 24\, 2022\, we made a promise: to stand with the Ukrainian resistance until the Russian invaders are driven from all of Ukraine’s territory. \nOne year later\, on February 24\, 2023\, we renew our promise: we will stand unconditionally and unwaveringly with Ukraine in its fight for survival—until victory. \n📍 Join us on Friday\, February 24\, 2023\, at Place de la République in Paris\, starting at 6 PM.

SUMMARY:The Eiffel Tower in the Colors of Ukraine
DESCRIPTION:As a powerful symbolic gesture of support for the Ukrainian people\, the Eiffel Tower will be illuminated in blue and yellow on February 23 in solidarity with Ukraine. This initiative\, led by the City of Paris and its mayor\, Anne Hidalgo\, marks the first anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. \nThe French and Ukrainian capitals share a friendship and cooperation pact\, signed in April 2022\, aimed at strengthening ties between the two cities. This relationship has resulted in concrete actions\, such as the welcoming of Ukrainian refugees in Paris\, material aid\, and moral support in Ukraine’s fight for freedom and independence against the Russian aggressor.
